Week 10 has come and gone!

We had a great week. We had so much fun on our field trip to the art museum. The harvest party was also a huge hit!

During school, we learned about quotation marks by reading comics, acting them out for the class, and recreating the comic speech bubbles into a paragraph. We have a lot of great actors and actresses in 2B!

We also did a science experiment with gummy bears. We observed the physical properties of the gummy bears. Then we left them in water overnight. The next day, we were amazed at the physical changes that took place! The gummy bears were huge!

This week has been filled with communities as we have been wrapping up our social studies unit on the similarities and differences between urban, suburban, and rural communities. The 2nd graders had a blast creating their own community in a box. They had to decide whether their community would be urban, suburban, or rural. Then they had to think about where people in their community would work, play, and live. They even got to name their communities (Texas Farm, Soaring Dolphins, and Awesome Town, just to name a few.) It was so fun to watch them work together to create their own towns and debating whether something such as a donut shop or a lego store would be more beneficial to their communities.

We also began guided reading this week. I'm excited to work with the students in small groups as we grow and develop our reading skills!

Week 4!

We learned a lot in our fourth week of school! We learned about the main idea and details of a story by looking through bags of goodies. The goodies inside were the details and the kids had to figure out what they all had in common to find the main idea. We also learned about action verbs by creating a verb action hero and having a verb relay race. We learned about magnets in science and practiced centers. To gain more practice with verbs, and to work on our writing skills, we did an Angry Verbs writing project. It was a great week!

Our chapel offering mission for this school year is the Christian Resource Center in India. This is a center that helps to spread the Good News of Jesus in a country that is 97% non christian. Pastor Sam Thompson works at Christian Resource Center and is currently studying at Concordia Seminary. He told us in chapel how his GOOD NEWS CLASS brought a young sick girl to know Jesus love, she became a Christian. The girl was diagnosed with a heart problem and was not expected to live. Many years later Pastor Sam Thompson was surprised when he met the girl. She told him how Jesus healed her and her whole family had been baptized. God is at work in India through people at the Christian Resources Center.
Our offering will go to support the work at the Christian Resource Center as they share Jesus.
