1/25-1/29

We had an extremely busy, but very exciting week this week as we celebrated National Lutheran School's Week. From hot chocolate and jugglers, to volleyball and dress up days, we really enjoyed all of the activities that the week had to offer! Amongst all of the week's activities, we managed to get some school work in as well:) Our class read Stone Fox...the last scene had us all in tears, or almost in tears. The book leaves us with many unanswered questions, so I had the kids write a "What happens next?" chapter for the book. They did a very nice job at tying up loose ends and making sure it had a much happier ending then the actual book did.

Juggling Jeff had an incredible message to go along with his impressive juggling and balancing acts. He taught us that nothing in this earth can fix our emptiness- only Jesus!

Career Day

Hello! This is a special blog post to show you the awesome paragraphs your kids wrote this morning about what they want to be when they grow up. The kids wrote their paragraphs, and then we took turns reading them to the class. It was so much fun to see everyone dressed up and hear about why they want to be part of that profession:)

1/18-1/22

With Martin Luther King Day on Monday, followed by a snow day on Wednesday, our school week flew by! We began reading a novel as a whole class entitled, Stone Fox. This is one of my favorite stories that we get to read in 2nd grade, and I hope they have been enjoying it too! On Friday in science, we got to experiment with creating and taking apart mixtures. They learned that solutions are nearly impossible to take apart.

1/11-1/15

This week in 2nd grade, we learned about nonfiction text features. The kids had a good time exploring and reading a part of the classroom library that has been largely overlooked up to this point. We also spent a small portion of every day learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and the dream he had to help make the world a better place. The kids all brainstormed their own dreams of how the world could become a better place. Their dreams were very sweet, many of them centering around people being kind to everyone around them, and also spreading God's message to the entire world. Maybe one day, their dreams will come true:)

1/4-1/8

Our first week back to school was very busy! Following a week in December of fun Christmas activities, along with a two week break, we quickly started on Monday with preparing ourselves for our regular school routines. This week we reviewed nouns, verbs, and adjectives, we learned two different ways matter can change, and we created some individualized goals for the quarter.

If we change the shape of clay, does the mass change?

Some very big physical changes happened to our gummy bears that were left in water overnight!
