2/22-2/26

This week, we learned about what elements make a fairytale story special. We read several different fairytale stories, and the kids wrote to retell about each one. I saw a lot of improvement as the week went on! We also painted fairytale castles for art. We spent time this week getting ready for Market Day, which turned out to be very successful! The kids had a lot of fun selling their goods, and shopping for goods of their own.
Below, you can watch their commercials that advertised their Market Day business.

2/16-2/19

We had a good week this week! In honor of Black History Month, we spent some time learning about various African American leaders who helped shape our country- including Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr. Ruby Bridges, and George Washington Carver. We also had fun with math centers this week, which allowed me to reteach small groups concepts that the kids may have been struggling with. We also began practicing for our 100 facts test by testing ourselves everyday. Our class goal is for everyone to finish their facts in under 5 minutes for next Thursday's test!

This week we learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln through various short readings.  We practiced finding the evidence in a text to answer comprehension questions. We also learned about different coins, and which president is on which coin. The kids also wrote some really great papers about what they would do if they were president. Spoiler Alert: Some kids said they would eat three desserts for every meal, get rid of bedtimes for kids across the country, and eat pizza every day. I think they could win some votes:)
