Looking Ahead to Next Week:
Memory: The Fifth Commandment-You shall not murder.
Spelling: ight: night, right, mighty, light, tight, sight, fight, height, lightning, delight
Phonics: Sounds of G and TH
Grammar: Abbreviations for days of the week, months, titles, streets, and measurements
Reading: Context Clues
Math: We will have our next test on Thursday. Because we have now had plenty of practice with the 100 addition facts, I will now be more strict on the 5 minute time limit. Any facts that the kids don't finish in 5 minutes will be counted wrong. We practice these facts everyday in class, so hopefully this shouldn't be a problem for any of our class.
Science: A study guide will be sent home on Monday for ch. 10 Lesson 2 (how temperature affects matter), and our quiz will be on Thursday. On Thursday, the Lesson 3 (mixtures) Study Guide will be sent home. The Lesson 3 quiz will take place the following Tuesday (2/13)
Writing: Opinion Writing

Important News and Information:
-Noon Dismissal on Wednesday, Feb. 7th
-Scholastic Book Orders were sent home on Friday. Orders will be due on Thursday, Feb. 8th
-With the arrival of February comes preparations for Valentine's Day. Students are welcome to bring Valentine's on Feb. 14 to share with each member of the class (we have 19 kids). A class list was sent home in folders on Friday to assist with names. Our school has a policy that students can not exchange candy with their classmates. The kids will make and decorate Valentine's bags in class that will hold their Valentine's.

Learning more about coding with Bob

Sorry I didn't do a good job of taking pictures throughout the week this week! It sped by quickly!
In science, we learned about physical and chemical changes. We did an experiment to test what would happen to a gummy bear if it sat in water overnight. The kids made a hypothesis, took observations, and patiently waited until the following day to record the results. 




The results are in....



The gummy bears are GIANT!!
