Reading: We will be learning about historical African Americans in honor of Black History Month.
Math:We will have our 60 subtraction fact test on Friday. The goal will be for the kids to finish in 4 minutes. We will review some previously taught math concepts on Monday and Tuesday through centers, especially focusing on time and facts. On Wednesday, we will begin learning double digit subtraction.
Social Studies: Market Day will take place on Friday, 3/3! We will work on store signs, open/closed signs, and commercials in class this week. Anything else the kids will need for their booths will need to be worked on outside of class.
Writing: Fractured Fairytale Writing
-Spring Auction Round Up is coming Feb 27th-March 3rd! The committee is looking for donations for the Zion School Auction April 7, 2017 at Old Hickory. The class with the most donations will receive 30 minutes of extra time in the gym! Need donation ideas? Grab a leaf with a donation idea off one of the Auction Trees the week before round up to help you shop. Monetary donations are also accepted and any help is appreciated! Thank you for your generosity!
- A Message from Mrs. Steinbacher: Thank you Bobcat Nation! You have once again shown your generosity and compassion for others in a huge way. We have had another record breaking year raising money for the American Heart Association. Our goal for the year was $12,000.00 but we actually raised over $16,400.00. Students turned in donations ranging from $5.00 to $1,500.00. Each donation made a difference and together our donations will make a huge difference right here in Missouri. Thank you Bobcats! Thank you volunteers who helped with our events! Thank you Lord for your endless blessings!

Chapel will dismiss at 11:15 for Grandparent's Day. The consent form says 11:130, however, we will dismiss from chapel that morning at 11:15. This dismissal form must be turned in by Friday, March 3rd.

-3rd Quarter is flying by! I placed your child's AR quiz information in folders today. Please check to see how they are doing in reaching their goals. The last day to take AR quizzes will be Thursday, March 9th.
-Market Day will take place on Friday, March 3rd. This is a very fun day for 2nd grade! We will begin to learn about jobs in communities, and how we can be good consumers. Market Day gives the kids a chance to demonstrate their learning. Look for an informational letter sent home in folders today! Please let me know if you have any questions!!
-Yearbooks can be ordered online now through March 3rd. See the flyer sent home in folders today for more information!

This Week:

Grammar: Compound Words. Instead of a test on Friday, we will have a fun activity--Compound Word Day! An informational letter will be sent home on Monday, and I will send an email out with the same information on Monday as well.
Reading: Making Inferences
Math: We are finished with the 100 addition fact tests! I'm sure the kids will be very excited:) However, we are now moving on to subtraction. Each week we have a test, the subtraction tests will build up by 10 facts, until we get to 100 subtraction facts. This Friday, we will have a 50 fact subtraction test. The goal is for the kids is to be able to finish all 50 facts in 4 minutes. Please practice at home with your child!
Science: We will finish up Chapter 10 about forces. A study guide will go home on Monday, and we will have our test on Thursday. This test is longer than previous science tests, as it covers three chapters rather than just one. We will review in class, but the kids will need to study at home as well!
Writing: Opinion Writing

-Valentine's Day is Tuesday, Feb. 14th. We will have a party in the afternoon. If your child wishes to bring Valentines for their classmates, please make sure they have one to give to everyone. We have 20 students in our class.

Please pray that we have a safe trip, that we are able to make connections with schools throughout the country so that Zion may partner with them in the future, and that we may love the people and community as Christ loves us. If you have any updates on dismissal arrangements, or appointments, please let Julie Schmidt know, who will be able to pass along the information to the sub. I should hopefully have internet access in the evenings, but am not sure how reliable it will be.

- Noon dismissal for this coming Wednesday, 2/1 for a teacher inservice day
-I have been asked to join Cheryl Haun, along with Andrea Lohmann, and Sherry Bervirt, to travel to Belize. Mrs. Haun and Mrs. Lohmann have been working with early childhood teachers in Belize for many years. Zion Church is working on forming a partnership with various communities in the country, and our school's chapel offerings for the year are going towards purchasing Bibles for teachers and students in Belize. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to travel to the country, bring Bibles to many schools, and form relationships with teachers there! Unfortunately, this trip means that I will be gone from school from Feb. 6-10. The kids will have a sub who will do a great job! I will have limited internet access while I am in Belize, so if you have anything important for the sub to know while I am gone, such as change in dismissal arrangements, please let Julie Schmidt know in the office, and she will send that information to the sub.
