This week has been filled with communities as we have been wrapping up our social studies unit on the similarities and differences between urban, suburban, and rural communities. The 2nd graders had a blast creating their own community in a box. They had to decide whether their community would be urban, suburban, or rural. Then they had to think about where people in their community would work, play, and live. They even got to name their communities (Texas Farm, Soaring Dolphins, and Awesome Town, just to name a few.) It was so fun to watch them work together to create their own towns and debating whether something such as a donut shop or a lego store would be more beneficial to their communities.

We also began guided reading this week. I'm excited to work with the students in small groups as we grow and develop our reading skills!
